I just finished watching To Hell and Back on AMC. To Hell and Back stars Audie Murphy and is the true story of... Audie Murphy. I'm not sure how much is truth and Hollywood. And you can spot the "Hollywood" in the movie. Most if it is understandable. Back in 1955 you couldn't really show war as it really is. They used Hollywood elements, themes, and tricks to tell the story.
I enjoyed the movie. I'm a WWII person. After reading up on To Hell and Back, I was hoping for something a little more. But overall I'm happy I watched it. It did ring a little more true and have a deeper story than most war movies including some modern ones.
My favorite war movie is really a miniseries, Band of Brothers. If I get started on that one I'd never stop.
AMC is one of my favorite TV channels. TV usually isn't any good. It's not. It's quick fixes for the numb and dumb. I'm not going to lie and say I don't need quick fixes ever now and then. That's why one of my other favorite channels is Comedy Central. But AMC is quickly becoming a necessity for me. I'm starving for a good movie. Hollywood doesn't like making good movies because they're usually not universally appealing and thus can't make as much money as the normal crapy they churn out.
I'm so hungry for a good movie I'm digging back through history trying to find something... anything. I've found some gems and some of them are finally coming to DVD, Scarface for example. I wish I could afford the Godfather DVD boxset. I don't want to buy just the Godfather. I want the whole series even through 2 and 3 (everybody tells me 3's no good but I don't remember enough to judge) aren't as good as the 1st one.
And with the season, I'm hungry for a good horror movie as well. House of a 1,000 Corpses was... well, ever seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre (not the new one)?
