It was my turn to mess things up. Tonight, I followed M$'s directions and ran Windows Update on the fresh computer my friend built for his wife. After downloading an awful lot of things, it came time to reboot... to an error message. There was to be no restoring to an earlier configuration or booting in safe mode. It was just error and then back from the abyss, a blue screen of death.
Google to the rescue. We found instructions on how to replace the messed up files using the XP prompt (aka ntfs prompt) you can get to using a XP disc.
I'm pretty sure all M$ products are out to get me. They just are.
