I just realized, several hours later, that I never tested my new favicon with Internet Explorer. I guess later I'll boot into Windows and do that. I hate to. Even when I do end up in Windows, and that's rare these days, I use a variant of the Mozilla browser. That way I avoid all the security problems with IE. Maybe I can get IE working with WINE in Linux. I've got Word working in Linux. I imagine the folks back at Redmond never expected that one.

Have you heard of the new worm, Sasser? I was watching MSNBC yesterday and an "expert" talked about it. He said if you left your computer on and you're running XP or Windows 2000, by the time you got home you'll probably have the worm. He said you didn't have to do anything to get it. He suggested downloading a patch from somewhere else and installing the patch on your computer before you connect to the Internet. Lovely.

Last night on the Screensavers, there was talk again about why Open Source is the better thing. Everybody gets to look inside and fix all the problems. This is opposite to the M$ notion of keeping it all to themselves. This way, only bad people can sneakly get the source code for Windows (I can only imagine what that stuff must look like) and find all the bugs and holes. Half this stuff is found by chance and hopefully, by chance, more good folk find it than bad folk. These good folk are often hammered by M$ for tattling. But hey, think of it like a building on fire. Wouldn't you want the employees yelling that the building is on fire instead of the builders and owners wanting to keep it hush hush until a) you notice the building is on fire and b) they find a way to put it out?
