No, the tornado didn't get me (see Friday's blog entry). There was a guy from the local ABC station broadcasting live from up the road hoping to see the twister. That didn't comfort me, but I am glad to say he never got to see what he wanted to see. The tornado never dropped and eventually the weather calmed. Yes, tornadoes can happen in Alabama in mid January.

For the last few days, jh2media (my friend Jon and I), have been working on a chatroom for one of our sites, the official site for the band Criminal Intent. Have I ever mentioned that I am not the biggest fan of Java? I really do hate the stuff. But every thing worked out. I figured out the bits of code that I needed to know so that I could tinker. And tinker I did.

We basically embedded a PJIRC applet into a PHP message board. Oh what fun. But PJIRC is actually pretty cool. It is a java applet that connects you to any IRC server, us.chatjunkies.org in this case. PJIRC is set to go to that server and join -- or create if not already created -- the room #criminalintentband.

I hope the room gets used. It was a lot of work. I certainly tested the thing enough. Have I ever mentioned that I am not the biggest fan of Java? I really do hate the stuff.

Hey, hey! It's cold. It was clear and windy today. And it's nucking cold right now (nucking not actual word). My walls get cold. I noticed last night that when that happens, my bed gets cold. Cold pillows are the worst. I can't do anything about that right now except try to keep things warm. Maybe I'll wear some socks to bed. That used to work in the old days.

The old days: My old house, the one I grew up in, was old. It was built we think in the 20s. It had a gas heater in the living room, which scared the crap out of me. It heated the living room very well, but not really the rest of the house. So I'd be in my room, a back room, and cold during the winter. We didn't have heaters. We had electric blankets, which I seemed to run on 8, the highest number it had, all day and night. And when I'd go to bed, I'd sometimes wear socks and a baseball hat. The hat and socks almost always did the trick. Yeah, I looked like somebody who has to wear a helmet when they go outside to catch the special bus. But I was warm.

This is also the same house that when in the summer, had no AC and the fans ran night and day. Nights were bad because sweating at night isn't fun. I used to sleep with my head at the foot of my bed because that's where the fan blew.

I've lived with an AC for a while now, but I still miss the old days. The air was fresher. You couldn't move for fear of melting, but the air was fresher.

Oh well, enough of the past. Go check out the chatroom on the Criminal Intent site. Feel free to stop and chat for a bit.

From a Hole in the Sky

13 Stories of Horror, Madness, and Religion make up this dark-kudzu collection. A city run by angels with demanding burial rites. A white van jostling with clowns and warnings about sleep. A weeping pastor with a dead man in a boat. Homicide, Suicide, Jesus, and The Devil. To join a family, you're going to need some stitches. Kids today on their way to cut grass and play cowboys and injuns'. A hole in the ground where poor John Henry met a foul ending. And unholy birthing machines with a chosen one. All this and more. Where do bad things come from? They come FROM A HOLE IN THE SKY.

    The Alabama Weather Blog
A blog of the current forecasts, watches, and warnings for the state of Alabama. The posts are automatically generated from E-forecast and E-warn e-mails from my local ABC Network Affiliate, ABC 33/40. The images are from the National Weather Service. The site will refresh itself every ten minutes.
