Last night I watched Hellraiser: Deader. I liked it. Like Inferno and Hellseeker, Deader is a character driven story much like the first Hellraiser. Pinhead is only in the movie for about 10 or so minutes. Though, if you listen in Inferno, Hellseeker, and Deader, you can hear Pinhead speaking to the characters. He's just not there in person. I'm not bothered by that. Most people who bitch and moan about the recent movies (Inferno, Hellseeker, and Deader -- I call them next generation movies) are the fact that they are not wall to wall cenobites and gore. If you want those kinds of movies, watch Hellbound and Hell on Earth.

I really am more pleased with the character driven stories. Pinhead gets to go back to do what he should be doing, playing Pope in Hell instead of some Jason or Freddy just waiting to rip somebody up. I honestly believe Pinhead has some demonic version of paperwork to deal with. But when he does show up, it is intense. If he was running all over the place (Hell on Earth), his impact is next to nothing.

Deader, surprisingly produced by Stan Winston, has some gore. It's not wall to wall. But it's enough to mean something. And there was one scene that really did impress me, the bathroom scene. If you've seen the movie, you know what I'm talking about. And Kari Wuhrer, who I've always enjoyed looking at, is really good in this movie. She was amazing in the bathroom scene.

Deader was shot in Romania. I think Hellworld (the next coming) was, too. Last week, I watched The Prophecy: Uprising, which stared Kari Wuhrer. She wasn't in that movie as much as I thought she would, but Uprising is basically just setting up the story in the next Prophecy movie, which was shot at the same time and also stars Kari Wuhrer (hence the setting up part). I'm hoping she does more horror movies... and Droug Bradley. He was in Uprising, too.

Ah, horror. I just can't help it. I love this stuff. And if you know me, you know it's no secret that I'm obsessed with the Hellraiser stuff (thank you Clive Barker). I just wished they'd made a fourth movie instead of skipping that number all together. I wonder why they did that.
