It has been awhile since I posted to my blog. No, I haven't been busy changing my phone number thanks to that Hoochie Paris Hilton and her stolen cellphone address book. jh2media has been busy building websites. We finished on this morning at 3 for Beyond The Ashes. Go check it here: BTA.

The weather is horrible right now. It's getting cold again, and it's raining, slow and sometimes heavy. The ground was already mud, and by that, I don't mean there's mud pubbles about; the ground is one big mud slush waiting for shoes and tires. I'm having trouble driving in my own driveway. It's like I start down it straight and slide to the side as I go through. Winter is usually the season of mud for us for some reason. This year, it's been bad. And Winter isn't over yet. It's getting cold again, and ten or so years ago, we had a snowy March. We could have the same again. Joy.

'Gonzo' Godfather Hunter S. Thompson Kills Himself

    By Kevin Krolicki

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Hunter S. Thompson, a renegade journalist whose 'gonzo' style threw out any pretense at objectivity and established the hard-living writer as a counter-culture icon, fatally shot himself at his Colorado home on Sunday night, police said. He was 67.

Thompson's son, Juan, released a statement saying he had found his father dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head at the writer's Owl Creek farm near Aspen.

Thompson, famed for such adrenaline-packed narratives as 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,' turned his drug and alcohol-fueled clashes with authority into a central theme of his work, challenging the quieter norms of established journalism in the process.

He also cultivated an aura of recklessness, starting with the blurb on his book 'Hell's Angels,' in which he called himself 'an avid reader, a relentless drinker and a fine hand with a .44 Magnum.'

A longtime gun enthusiast, Thompson had a shooting range on his property.

'Hunter prized his privacy and we ask that his friends and admirers respect that privacy as well as that of his family,' said the statement released on behalf of Juan and Thompson's wife, Anita.

By his heyday in the 1970s, Thompson had distilled his style of invective-laced, outlaw journalism into a slogan: 'When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.'

'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,' adapted from a two-part article written for Rolling Stone magazine in late 1971, chronicled Thompson's drug-fueled misadventures in Las Vegas while ostensibly covering a motorcycle race in the desert.

    'WRITER OF SIGNIFICANCE'

The book established Hunter as a cult celebrity and became the basis for a 1998 Hollywood adaptation, starring Johnny Depp (news) as Thompson's alter-ego, Raoul Duke.

Thompson's refracted coverage of the Super Bowl and the 1972 presidential race also inspired the 1980 movie "Where the Buffalo Roam," with Bill Murray as the self-proclaimed doctor of gonzo journalism.

He was also caricatured as "Uncle Duke" in the comic strip Doonesbury, right down to his signature aviator glasses and cigarette holder.

Although Thompson's later work got mixed reviews, critics credited him with pioneering a style of invective-laced and hyperbolic political commentary that was uniquely American.

A 1994 essay in Rolling Stone written as an obituary for former President Richard Nixon was typical. At a time when many commentators offered a more generous re-assessment of Nixon's legacy, Thompson called him "a liar, a quitter and a bastard. A cheap crook and a merciless war criminal."

"I think Thompson has remained a writer of significance, because, essentially a satirist, he has displayed an utter contempt for power -- political power, financial power, even showbiz juice," novelist Paul Theroux wrote in 2003.

Raised in a middle-class family in Louisville, Kentucky, Thompson's father died when he was 14, and by 18 he had been jailed for his part in a robbery.

After a stint in the Air Force working as a sports editor, he became a foreign correspondent for the New York Herald Tribune in Puerto Rico.

In 1965, Thompson broke through with an article about the Hell's Angels that he turned into a critically hailed book.

It was his association with Rolling Stone that turned both into literary icons -- even though Thompson initially considered the upstart San Francisco-based magazine "a bunch of faggots and hippies."

    Inject.

IBM and Sun free up some of their patents -- a lot of their patents actually -- for people to use for free in anything Open Source. This is a very good thing because it injects a lot of new possibilities in the Linux/Unix/BSD world. I'm sure M$ will have something negative to say about this.

jh2media is officially an International Web Design Company. We were just hired to build a site for a British band, Mudkicka. We also have a photo shoot Saturday with a local band, Beyond The Ashes. These are very good things.

I have learned three things today. One, Green Day, a pop band pretending to be a punk band, won a Grammy for best rock album. What the hell is wrong with people? Two, Sara Gilbert and her partner Allison have a baby boy together. Three, Melissa Etheridge has cancer, which really sucks.

The President saw his shadow last night. That means there will be four more years of economical blunderings, right-wing religious legal pursuits, and possible war in Iran, North Korea, and Syria.

Last night I worked for almost five hours straight on my sister's taxes, and just her federal taxes. It was insane. Last year, she filed jointly with her duddly-ass-head husband. This year, she's filling separate. She also supposed to be getting a divorce, but it's been months since they submitted the divorce papers.

I wasted about an hour of my life the other night. I tried to watch Final Destination 2. Now the term "Heaping pile of dog shit" has been thrown around over the last week or so and has aptly described some things and perhaps failed to describe others. But Final Destination 2 is a heaping pile of dog shit. I love the first one. I own it on DVD. But part 2 had no plot. Nothing. There was no suspense. And the editing was bad. I think it's first movie I ever noticed that the editing was bad. Now, there is something good to say about it. The effects were good, all the people stuff. They were nice and gorey. But sooner or later people will wise up to the fact that cars just don't explode when they hit stuff. Yes, tanks leak and go boom. But a trans am running into the bed of a truck and having the trans am's windshield hit metal does not cause a trans am to explode. That's where I started to get a not so good feeling about the movie. And then Ali Larter's character showed up. I know she can act. But there's no proof of that in the movie. You can blame the director for that.

My faith in good actors and movies was restored last night. I watched People I Know that stars Al Pacino and Tea Leoni. You can always tell if the movie is a good Pacino movie if his character can make a speech or give a monologue. The movie started one way and took a major turn. It was all good. I didn't see some stuff coming. I don't understand why this movie isn't well known. I didn't even know of it until last night. The acting is great. It does have a feeling like a group of friends got together over the weekend in New York and made a movie, perhaps something outside of Hollywood. The movie has some very funny moments, but it has been called a black comedy. So it may not be funny to everybody. It was very entertaining to me. And Pacino was amazing in it. What more do you want? Oh, it was also kind of disturbing in how it could be true (it probably is).

There is this odd moment in the beginning of People I Know when they put Pacino between two average sized guys. It really does show how small the man is.

It has been a busy last few days. But it seems all my days have been busy. I've been dealing with taxes. Oh, I love taxes. Every number could be a jail number. A jail number is any number that if you get wrong, could put you in jail. I know it's not really that serious, but sometimes it feels that way. I helped my parents with their taxes. Now my sister wants help with hers. Joy, oh joy.

Last night I watched a movie called Black Cadillac that had Randy Quaid in it. Yes, Randy Quaid. He played a cop. He's actually not that bad of an actor. He's not the star of the movie. The movie seems to have some lesser-known actors who do have some skills. I was surprised at their acting. I was more surprised by the movie. It wasn't bad. It does have a "made for TV" vibe, but it isn't bad at all. Of course, the true star of the movie is a 1957 Black Cadillac. It just simply kicks ass (which is true to life, all 1950's Cadillacs kick ass). The protagonists, three young men just trying to get home on a dark winter night, drive a modern Saab 900. The movie could be taken as a moral lesson as to what happens when you try to drag race with a '57 Cadillac if you're driving a Saab 900. And also take a guess at which one is built to last.

There is so much more to do. I thought I'd take a break and post. I need to take something for a sinus headache. I hate those. I'm going to blame Saab for the sinus headache.

From a Hole in the Sky

13 Stories of Horror, Madness, and Religion make up this dark-kudzu collection. A city run by angels with demanding burial rites. A white van jostling with clowns and warnings about sleep. A weeping pastor with a dead man in a boat. Homicide, Suicide, Jesus, and The Devil. To join a family, you're going to need some stitches. Kids today on their way to cut grass and play cowboys and injuns'. A hole in the ground where poor John Henry met a foul ending. And unholy birthing machines with a chosen one. All this and more. Where do bad things come from? They come FROM A HOLE IN THE SKY.
