Sarah Silverman: Jesus is Magic
Watch the above. I have. I finished a short story tonight called "Wrong." It feels good to accidentally write something. After finishing the script for "W. T. for Short," I was supposed to relax a bit and prepare for the horror movie script. Well, I started that one, too, but I had an idea for a short story. The idea was different enough to earn some time to be written now. So it's done. I'll start typing in the story soon because I wish to share as soon as possible. The horror movie doesn't have a title yet. Though, I have put a lot a thought into it the last few days. It is consuming, which is nice. I have a beginning and an ending that's stuck for a while. I just have to work on the middle a bit more which is really something to justify the ending, show how a person can get to Point C (A being the beginning and B the middle bits). I also need to come up with a few back stories for various things. I need to do some location scouting. If I knew of a location now, I could better tailor the back stories to the location. I am trying hard not to get ahead of myself and also not to take this too seriously. If I allow it, I can certainly feel the pressure of making sure I have The Story to make the movie out of, the One and True Great Story. No worries. I just rely on my ego and arrogance to support my notion that not only do I have The Right Story but I certainly know what I'm doing and will be able to do this. Some call it confidence. I usually don't. I've got too much hard-headedness going on to just call it confidence. Well, I'm going to go watch the Sarah Silverman: Jesus is Magic trailer again, maybe once more after that. Then I'll probably listen to some Chris Isaak or watch some horror movie. Maybe both. Who knows? Friday, June 24, 2005
From Mandriva Press Release:
Mandriva announces acquisition of main Lycoris assets, new move on the desktop 2005-06-15 June 15th 2005 - Mandriva, formerly known as Mandrakesoft, the publisher of the popular Mandriva Linux distribution, today announced an agreement to purchase several assets from Lycoris, a major North American Linux distribution for home users. As part of this agreement, Lycoris' founder and CEO Joseph Cheek is joining Mandriva to develop a new and advanced Linux desktop product. Since its inception in the year 2000, Lycoris has established a solid reputation for developing easy to use and friendly operating systems targetted to the consumer market. For instance, Lycoris has released a full Linux OS - Desktop/LX - which is based on a high-quality graphical user interface and the Iris Software Gallery technology for easily adding new components to the system. Desktop/LX is often considered to be a realistic and affordable competitor to the Windows® and MacOS® operating systems, thus gaining large recognition from the American press.Lycoris also pioneered unique Linux products for the mass market, such as a Tablet Edition and a Pocket PC edition of Lycoris Desktop/LX, which led to several partnerships with hardware vendors in Asia, including Dialogue and MoBits. As a result of these successes, Lycoris developed a large base of users in only a few years. Paying members of this community of users number nearly 20,000. Based on the download statistics of the free products, one can estimate the overall user population to be several hundreds of thousands. On the other hand, Mandriva, which was one of the first Linux distributions to care about the desktop and the user experience from its inception in 1998, was looking for an opportunity to accelerate the development of its desktop technologies which are key for Linux adoption both in the user land and corporate world. Lycoris was a top candidate for this strategy, and thus Mandriva is extremely pleased to reach this agreement with Lycoris and to have Joseph Cheek joining the team. The joint plan is now to develop a new product that will be the convergence between our Mandriva Discovery product and Lycoris Desktop/LX. Both teams have already started working on this product. In parallel, the plan is to add into the Mandriva Club some of the unique features of the Iris Software Gallery and to create a specific space in the Club dedicated to the existing Iris Software Gallery and to welcome the former Lycoris.org user forum. Joseph Cheek joins Mandriva to head the program that will drive these two projects. "We are extremely happy that Joseph Cheek decided to join the Mandriva family. They bring a unique expertise in terms of desktop tools and some excellent products. Our goal is now to provide a path moving forward to the thousands of Desktop/LX users", said François Bancilhon, CEO of Mandriva. Joseph Cheek added: "Lycoris is especially excited to be part of the new Mandriva team. Merging the unique qualities of our Desktop/LX product with Mandriva's excellent technology will enable both Desktop/LX and Mandriva users to enjoy a superior computing experience." More details will soon follow about the new convergence product, as well as a release plan. About Lycoris Lycoris was founded in 2000 with a vision of making Linux simple enough for everyone. Lycoris packages Open Source applications for the consumer market and integrates them into Desktop/LX, its simple, robust operating system. Lycoris has enjoyed amazingly positive press coverage in Time Magazine and other publications. Lycoris is positioning itself as the leading provider of the best Linux based operating system specifically targeted for the desktop market, whether purchased separately or pre-installed on Desktop/LX PCs. The company is also the leader in the Linux Tablet arena, pioneering the first and so far only Linux-based Tablet PC operating system, Desktop/LX Tablet Edition. Lycoris sets the standard that all others follow. Visit Lycoris on the web at http://www.lycoris.com. Joseph Cheek's experience at both Linuxcare and Microsoft helped him learn how to merge a great user experience and open source software into a consistent whole. Prior to his tenure at Linuxcare and Microsoft, Joseph had been a network consultant and a Caldera VAR. His vision for the future of computing includes a time when open source enthusiasts enjoy all of the computing benefits typically found in more established commercial operating systems. About Mandriva Mandriva, formerly known as Mandrakesoft, is the publisher of the popular Mandriva Linux operating system, one of the most full-featured and easy to use Linux systems. The company offers its enterprise, government educational customers a complete range of GNU/Linux and Open Source software and related services. Last night I printed, on my dying ten year old printer, a copy of "W. T. for Short," the screenplay. There will be a few days of heavy editing, and hopefully, that'll be that.
This is my first screenplay. There are a lot of personal reasons why I decided to attempt one. While I still don't understand all the mechanics that go into a screenplay, I think I got the jist of it and did pretty well. As for the content of the screenplay... I don't know if that's any good or not. It certainly doesn't exactly follow the story structure of an average movie. But that's okay to me. I'm not into average movies. I've learned enough from this to start writing horror movies, which is partly the reason for why I wrote the screenplay. In fact, I hope to start next week on a horror movie because I'm hoping that I have indeed learned how to fish. I'm going to go edit now. Saturday, June 18, 2005
Last night I watched Hellraiser: Deader. I liked it. Like Inferno and Hellseeker, Deader is a character driven story much like the first Hellraiser. Pinhead is only in the movie for about 10 or so minutes. Though, if you listen in Inferno, Hellseeker, and Deader, you can hear Pinhead speaking to the characters. He's just not there in person. I'm not bothered by that. Most people who bitch and moan about the recent movies (Inferno, Hellseeker, and Deader -- I call them next generation movies) are the fact that they are not wall to wall cenobites and gore. If you want those kinds of movies, watch Hellbound and Hell on Earth.I really am more pleased with the character driven stories. Pinhead gets to go back to do what he should be doing, playing Pope in Hell instead of some Jason or Freddy just waiting to rip somebody up. I honestly believe Pinhead has some demonic version of paperwork to deal with. But when he does show up, it is intense. If he was running all over the place (Hell on Earth), his impact is next to nothing. Deader, surprisingly produced by Stan Winston, has some gore. It's not wall to wall. But it's enough to mean something. And there was one scene that really did impress me, the bathroom scene. If you've seen the movie, you know what I'm talking about. And Kari Wuhrer, who I've always enjoyed looking at, is really good in this movie. She was amazing in the bathroom scene. Deader was shot in Romania. I think Hellworld (the next coming) was, too. Last week, I watched The Prophecy: Uprising, which stared Kari Wuhrer. She wasn't in that movie as much as I thought she would, but Uprising is basically just setting up the story in the next Prophecy movie, which was shot at the same time and also stars Kari Wuhrer (hence the setting up part). I'm hoping she does more horror movies... and Droug Bradley. He was in Uprising, too. Ah, horror. I just can't help it. I love this stuff. And if you know me, you know it's no secret that I'm obsessed with the Hellraiser stuff (thank you Clive Barker). I just wished they'd made a fourth movie instead of skipping that number all together. I wonder why they did that. Tuesday, June 14, 2005
What's up with the fries at the bottom of the bag? What are they thinking? Do they think they can just escape? Escape to where? They're in the bottom of a bag.
Last night I was able to write new scenes for W. T. for Short. I have more planned for today. I was very pleased last night because I had to write song lyrics for the main character, Terrance, to sing. They need to be refined a bit, but that's not a worry. I also watched Shaun of the Dead. Shaun of the Dead is a comedy/zombie movie. The effects are nice and gory, and the comedy is pretty funny. I was surprised at the quality of the movie. It really is a good movie. I loved all the little references to Romero's zombie movies. Speaking of Romero, I can't wait to see Land of the Dead. Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright of Shaun of the Dead appear in Land of the Dead because Romero liked Shaun of the Dead so much. And effects Guru Tom Savini reprises his role from Dawn of the Dead in Land of the Dead. I can't wait. Monday, June 13, 2005
I love live TV and news events. Though, some of them aren't exactly "events."
Over the weekend, jh2media finished a redesign of Hopeful Sinner, a fansite for artist and musician Charlie Terrell. We worked very hard the last few weeks designing and building the site. Personally, I couldn't wait to get it out there for people to see. The site design is based on silent films, which I love. In fact, the message board theme is named Thea after Thea Von Harbou, writer of Metropolis. Thea was also married to Fritz Lang, director of Metropolis. So go check out Hopeful Sinner and then go watch Metropolis, the restored Kino version. Today I have some scenes to write for W. T. for Short, the screenplay. I'm eager to get that done, but I'm also patient because this is a learning experience. After W. T. for Short, I'm going to start working on a horror movie. I honestly believe I can make a scary movie, and I'm not just talking about setting something in Wal-mart. It has been a long time since I watched a scary movie. The last movie that made me jump was Dead Birds, and that movie had a little scary tension in it. But I want something with that dread tension that just makes it difficult to watch because of fear(see Alien and The Exorcist). But before I do that, I have to spend time with Terrance White and his folly. Saturday, June 11, 2005

Did you know that The Pogues are cool? I'm in the middle of cutting slices of images and coding html for a redesign of a jh2media site -- one I can't wait to show people -- and my mind can't help but to wander. So I think I figured out what might be a good song to end "W. T. for Short" with. That's the screenplay I'm working on. "Fraiytale of New York" by The Pogues. Why? Other than the fact that it's a good song, one lyric comes to mind. "Happy Christmas your arse I pray God it's our last." Nothing is set in stone so it could end up being a Rolling Stones song. I've had a theory for a while that movies that end with a Stones song stand a better chance of being good (Devil's Advocate, Fallen). Oh well. I need to get back to work.

It was known that many of them would die. But they had to breach the Atlantic Wall. They had to open a doorway for the free world to fight the axis of evil on the ground that they had taken and eventually their own homeland. Just like most of the film footage is in black and white, World War II was a war of good versus evil. The war was not only full of real villains and heroes, it was full of lessons that need to be remembered today. For more information and a lot of good reads, go here: Encyclopædia Britannica's Guide to Normandy 1944. Last night I watched Frailty. I sort of wanted to see this movie when it first came out thinking it was a horror movie about demons trying to get into Bill Paxton's house. I thought he would have to fight them off and somehow Matthew McConaughey was involved as a friend of Bill Paxton's character. I was wrong. Matthew plays Bill's son. Most of the movie is told during flashbacks. And it is a movie about a serial killer getting his kids to help him. I'm not ruining the story. You find about this in the first ten or so minutes. You also find out the religious beliefs that drive the killer. The rest of the movie is the story of how all this happened.I really did like the movie. It was dark and disturbing. And even though you know what's basically going to happen -- there are a few twists, it's like watching a horrible car accident that you can't stop. There's some pretty disturbing things in the movie that remind me of Andrea Yates, a woman who drowned her kids in Texas because she thought God had told her to do so. Frailty is set in Texas. Frailty really is a very good Southern Gothic tale with some uncomfortable bits of truth. Over the weekend, jh2media finished principle design on a redesign for one of our sites. I'm anxious for people to see it. I don't think it will be much longer before they do. I had planned to do yard work today, but we're currently having bad weather. There's even flooding to worry about. Joy. Friday, June 03, 2005
"It seemed like to me they based some of their decisions on the word of -- and the allegations -- by people who were held in detention, people who hate America, people that had been trained in some instances to disassemble -- that means not tell the truth." - George W. Bush.
According to Dictionary.com disassemble means: 1. To come apart: The unit disassembles easily. 2. To break up in random fashion: The spectators began to disassemble. Thursday, June 02, 2005
Busy days these nights. I just printed out a copy of my latest short story, "Telling." I hope to have it edited by Monday. I'm still typing in my "band" story because it turned out longer than I expected.
Our weather lately has been periods of rain followed by periods of rain. Today was the first day where it really didn't rain all that much here. I'm sure when this passes, we'll have the return of tornadoes. I can't wait. Last year, we had a hurricane come up this way. I think we'll have the same again this year. I haven't had a chance to watch a lot of the news this week because of various projects. In my spare time though, I've been able to do some research on that whole Deep Throat thing. I actually think I've figured out who it is. I think it was Richard Nixon. Who else would have known all the things Deep Throat knew? Just joking. I know Deep Throat came out of anonymity this week. I've watched a lot of interviews with all kinds of people. But what gets me is that fact that nobody has even tried to interview Richard Nixon. I mean, don't you think he has something interesting to say about this whole thing? |
