This morning about 4 I watched a rendered video of my music video project. So far, I'm very pleased. There are 2 or 3 things I need to change, but I really am pleased and, to be honest, a little surprised at how well things fell into place. There were a lot of happy accidents with certain video. But it's all good. And it didn't even take all that long to render, too. I'm sure that'll change as I tinker. But that's okay.

I'm going to go eat now. I have go in a little bit to pick up my nephew at school. It's going to be a hot one today and tomorrow. That's why I'm not looking forward to picking up my nephew. I have to go wait in line for almost an hour in my car which is black with a vinyl top with only two working windows and no AC. Joy.

I spent almost all night last night editing video. I tried to take a break every fifteen minutes, but each time I would get up, about an hour had passed. I have downloaded a few public domain and open source videos from the 40's and 50's, a car commercial, an instructional video on why you shouldn't wash clothes with gasoline, and etc. I also have a good number of videos of pin-ups in Teaserama shows. I'm editing these together for a short music video.

It's really odd to take something that was already put together and take things from it. You can completely change the "story" of the video. It really is "taking something out of context" on a new level. For example, you can take a video of three ladies having fun tying each other up and spanking each other, I guess it was a stag film or something from the 50's, and edit out all the smiling and laughing and have I guess a bondage film. Maybe that was the best they could do in the old days, the closest they could get to bondage.

My goal is to simply edit a few things I enjoy together for a fun little video. I've edited out little bits from about half of the videos I have to work with. I'm going to put all these little bits together in some form, maybe even have some kind of narrative. It's not easy. One of these days, I hope to do all of this with my own material. I imagine it would be a slight bit easier project if you had a narrative first and shot video for that instead of creating your own with pieces from other videos. Right now, it's like a have a huge pile of puzzle pieces that all fit together. There are almost endless possibilities, which is good, but I want to make my own puzzles.

Oh well. Time to eat and then edit.

    Is the term nutball redundant?

I've spent the last few days, believe it or not, learning how to edit video. I am no where near where I want to be, but I'm a lot further along than I thought I could be. I have at the smallest level a rudimentary understanding of the software required and the editing process. Oddly enough, I've figured out dozens of effects that, while eye candy, are not exactly what I ever need to use for any personal video/movie.

To begin with, I took photos from one of jh2media's clients, live shoots and photos from a photo shoot they had with Melissa Holley, and put them in some kind of order, measuring out time, to a demo mp3 of the clients. Think of it as a picture video, but a video never the less. I added some basic effects, some grain, vertical, rough stripes that pulsed and blurred. For something like this, effects weren't so bad and added something to the still shots. It took hours to do, but was worth it. I've had privately posted the video to the client, and I'm awaiting their thoughts. If they okay it, it'll be publicly posted.

I have learned a few things in this editing experiment. First, my salvage computer isn't up to the task of real editing. The little 500 MHz heart does it's best and allows me to play any video game that I want to play, which isn't exactly new ones, but the same ones I played when my real computer died. Second, I can edit. I've already learned enough to take simple video footage and put together. I've also learned how to do color correction and specialty coloring (think Matrix). I really needed to know if I could do that part, and I can. I'm not going to be able to do it on this computer, but computers are easy to come by. What I really need is a camera, a nice, brand new Digital8 camera that says SONY on the side. Oh, you don't have to ask, I do take donations. No joke, I'll put you in a movie.

It has been a long day of shopping for school clothes for my nephew. While out, we stopped by a used book store called Kathy's Book Store. The store used to be a gas station, and when it was a gas station, some guy named George Lindsay used to work there. Then he left for Hollywood. I'm not really sure what happened to him after that.

At the book store, I picked up Stephen Ambrose's Band of Brothers, which is what the miniseries was based on. I've already read the first chapter. The book is not, as I thought, a story with "characters" based on real events. It's the simple telling of what happened with quotes from the real men of E Company.

Last night, I watched John Waters Pink Flamingos. Now, I'm not saying the movie was bad. It's just is. It is. But it's suppose to be. The movie has worse acting in it than Bloodfeast, and if you've ever heard of Bloodfeast, then you know what I'm talking about. And to be honest, I was not prepared for Pink Flamingos. I thought I knew what it was about, how it was shot, and what happened in it. I was mostly wrong about the movie.

First, the way it was shot. The movie seems to have been shot with a single camera that's static 90% of the time. There are a few times when the camera zooms in, but they are often shaky, almost unsure about what they are zooming in on or when they are supposed to zoom in. The scenes are often very long with no cutting. Actors had to memorize several pages of dialogue for each scene and perform as if in a play. If they messed up, they had to start all over again. I paid close attention to this stuff because when I start making movies, I'll probably have to do stuff like this. Though, I do hope to have better actors. Most were okay in the sense they memorized their lines and believed what they were saying. Divine, no joke, seemed to be the best of the bunch. The woman who played Divine's mother, however, and God bless this woman, was horrible. She opens the movie talking about eggs and the egg man not coming anymore. Maybe that was a metaphor for menstruation. I don't know. The lady was up in age and in a bra and slip and quiet large. She was also kind of dirty and sitting in a playpen. This is when I started to get the feeling the movie was a tad be more on the b-side of things than I had previously thought.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not bashing the actors who were in the movie. I don't think it was meant to be serious. They were mostly, if not all, friends of John Waters. And you can tell the movie was made as an act of love and everybody seemed to have a lot of fun doing it. There's nothing wrong with that. It's silly and fun. The movie isn't being mean with the over the top characterizations either. It does, and this is just me, seem like it was poking fun at people who think gays, transexuals, and swingers are really like those in the movie.

I haven't seen all of John Waters' movies, but I do love Cry Baby and Serial Mom and actually kind of like Hairspray. Pink Flamingos does have that feeling that the '50's never died. I love that. And maybe this was on accident, but the good guys drive a white Cadillac, probably a '57, and the bad guys drive a black Cadillac, a '58 or '59. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Now, what was the movie about and why was a bit nauseous at times? Well, I really don't want to give too much of the movie away. Not because I don't want to ruin the movie for you, but because you'll stop reading. The movie started off with a bit of stupid white trash fun and then just kept on building. It became icky and perverted and disgusting. The plot is that Divine is famous for being the filthiest person alive but a pair of swingers are tired of that and want to be known as the filthiest people alive. So they aspire to take Divine out or something. I did not know that movie was rated X and it was rated X for a reason. John Waters said he wanted something to top Deep Throat, and he did that. And if you have seen the movie, I just want to say a few words: chicken fucker, semen, "Moma, lick my balls," and poodle. If you haven't seen it and want to, good luck. But please think about these words: chicken fucker, semen, "Moma, lick my balls," and poodle.

Finally, did I like the movie? Yes, but for wrong reasons. I take joy in, "I can't believe somebody actually put that in a movie."

From a Hole in the Sky

13 Stories of Horror, Madness, and Religion make up this dark-kudzu collection. A city run by angels with demanding burial rites. A white van jostling with clowns and warnings about sleep. A weeping pastor with a dead man in a boat. Homicide, Suicide, Jesus, and The Devil. To join a family, you're going to need some stitches. Kids today on their way to cut grass and play cowboys and injuns'. A hole in the ground where poor John Henry met a foul ending. And unholy birthing machines with a chosen one. All this and more. Where do bad things come from? They come FROM A HOLE IN THE SKY.
